It might be hard to remember for Sydney readers of this blog, given the dreary, sticky heat and rain (I know, what a combination, reminds me of Asia) of late but a couple of weekends ago we hit big big temperatures.
On this particular hot and sweaty summer day Call me Jose and I left our breezeless apartment and headed down to Clovelly for some snorkelling.
Yes, you read that right, I went snorkelling and stayed in the water at the beach for far longer than my usual two minutes. It was the perfect way to beat the summer heat.
Another benefit of snorkelling at Clovelly (or any visit to Clovelly for that matter) is an excuse to visit Out of the Blue, a great burger joint on Clovelly Road. My friend Ms E swears by their fish burgers but I couldn’t do it and ordered a chicken burger.
I was rewarded for my unadventurous-ness with a stunningly large and tender piece of chicken schnitzel, mayo and all the trimmings that should come with a burger, beetroot, carrot, lettuce and tomato.
I’ve always wondered why some places
deprive you of salad and beetroot once you
order a chicken burger. Not here.
Call me Jose went for a classic beef burger and was not disappointed either. Cheese is an option on the burgers there and probably should be taken only for the fact that cheese improves almost everything.
Wait, sorry, cheese improves everything.
Chips. Very important. I have a penchant for chips that are wrapped in paper rather than served in a box (small things right?) so they were likely to be a winner from the beginning but the servings were generous and the chips hot, fresh and slightly soggy from the wrapping. Just how I like them.
What can I say? It was all very good. Out of the Blue is a ten minute uphill walk from Clovelly Beach but you can call ahead and order. If you time it right you will arrive there just to see your burger’s being assembled by the very busy staff.
The anticipation is almost too much!
There’s not a lot of room to sit in and eat, but why would you if Clovelly beach was a less than ten minute downhill walk away…..
